Vogue Finally Has Its Pearl

At the beginning of 2022, a monumental announcement was made. Condé Nast publicized the upcoming launch of Vogue Philippines, the 28th edition of the global fashion authority. Vogue is published in Australia, Brazil, China, Czech Republic and Slovakia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico & Latin America, the Middle East, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Scandinavia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the U.K., Ukraine, and the U.S.

The acquisition was conceived under a license agreement with MEGA Global Licensing Inc. (MGLI)—a Filipino publishing company with over 30 years of prestige publishing experience.

With the country’s unmatchable creative scene, it was time for the international title to finally have its pearl—the Philippines. Vogue Philippines strengthens the fashion bible’s presence in Southeast Asia, serving as a platform to celebrate the country’s rich culture, diversity, and creative fashion talent. “The Filipino talent has been ready to be received by the world for decades now and with certainty, I can say that the market, too, is finally ready. The two are meeting at the perfect juncture at the perfect time and the long wait is over,” said Chairman and CEO of MGLI, Archie Carrasco.

Vogue Issue

Joining editions around the world with a global audience of more than 272 million, Vogue Philippines was launched in September 2022. It blends tradition and innovation, local culture and global style, across print, digital, and social platforms.

Vogue Philippines launched with a tribute to the diversity and beauty of the Filipino identity, featuring Chloe Magno, a Filipino-American model with roots in Davao, photographed by British-Filipino-Egyptian Sharif Hamza. The 36-page feature traces Chloe’s journey across the country, from the lagoons of Bucas Grande to the marble boulders of Tinipak River, wearing pieces from global couture houses and homegrown designers.

Editor-in-Chief Bea Valdes describes the maiden issue as a reflection on identity, shaped by place, people, and purpose—all seen through Vogue’s lens: “The maiden issue explores the concept of identity—what it is to be fashioned and shaped by our environment, our landscapes, and by the people we cherish. It speaks of sustainable mindsets, in our own terms.”

Whang-Od Inked Her Place in History

Vogue Philippines redefined the global conversation on age, culture, and beauty with its April 2023 issue. The cover star was 106-year-old Apo Whang-Od, the revered Kalinga mambabatok, whose presence marked a historic first across all Vogue editions as the oldest cover star to date.

With this powerful moment, Whang-Od left an indelible mark on history—a living symbol of heritage and timeless beauty. The issue sparked global admiration and prompted a reexamination of beauty’s evolving definition, one grounded in identity, resilience, and cultural memory.

In acknowledgment of the issue’s cultural and international significance, the Philippine House of Representatives passed House Resolution No. 1949, recognizing Vogue Philippines for its groundbreaking work and for elevating Filipino heritage on a world stage.

Threads, at their core, are fine strands of fabric woven or stitched together to form textiles and garments.

Through the lens of Vogue Philippines, these strings symbolize connections and continuity. They represent the intricate relationships and histories that bind the Filipino community, both within the motherland and across the global stage.

Paris, France • September 2024

For its anniversary event at the French capital, Vogue Philippines celebrated among Filipino trailblazers, celebrities, and industry professionals honoring the country’s heritage.

“We continue to write, with each issue,  a love letter to our Archipelago. If it has not been apparent enough, we are boundless in our pride for our rich heritage.” — Vogue Philippines Editor-in-Chief Bea Valdes.

Manila, Philippines • November 2024

A showcase of Filipino creativity, craftsmanship, and immersive experiences, the three-day event
was an exploration of fashion, heritage and innovation.

As the event came to a close, it left an enduring message: that fashion is not merely about style, but also about community, representation, and storytelling. With every thread stitched, a story is woven; a story that connects the past to the future, and the Philippines to the world.
